Google Android 10.1 tablet review
Really good tablet. Of course, it can't match the overall quality of a device like the Nexus 7 or the iPad air. But from a relatively obscure brand this really is one of the best overall products you can get. Coupled with the price, I really would recommend this tablet for a family or for children who may break the device, so a more expensive tablet might not be the best decision to make.
Firstly the speed is very good, I've found it's the main strong point of the tablet. Browsing the web is very smooth and clean, as is switching between apps. I have found that the operating system (Android) is also very nice and quite pleasing to use. Again, you're not going to see really great performance like on the iPad, but for the price it is definitely a good aspect of the device.
I also found the build quality surprisingly good. There have been one or two reviews who say it has a slightly plastic feel to it- which is true, but it doesn't get fingerprints and overall feels very solid and has a nice, satisfying weight to it. It's good they haven't- in an attempt to add value- include a material like on the Samsung Galaxy S6, which has a very premium but not very practical material which is impossible to keep in a good condition in everyday use. There is a tiny bit of flex, but nothing serious. Overall the build quality is really good.
I was expecting the screen to be its weak point, as is the case on a lot of other cheap tablets, but this really isn't the case. Although the screen doesn't have great viewing angles and has a slightly strange feeling to it, it is by no means bad for its price point. It has a decent resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels, which really isn't bad for a small price of £79. I have noticed a little bit of pixellation but it's not much to complain about.
However, the device does have one weak point. Other reviews have said the camera has good quality, but I can't understand this. The Nexus 7 has a camera that isn't quite up to scratch, but its camera is definitely better than this. To expand upon this, whilst the camera quality itself isn't awful- it's not great, but acceptable to a point- the lighting is really not good. Again, for someone like me who doesn't use the camera a huge amount, this isn't the biggest problem, but it is nice to have an acceptable shooter for now and then.
The speakers are back facing and good enough for every day use. I'm someone who really isn't bothered by speaker quality or loudness. For me, if I can hear it, it's good! Of course, this isn't comparable to HTC Boomsound, but it's certainly good enough for the price.
Now, to a certain extent, I feel bad slating this company. It supports charities and seems to good in the world, which seems very important. But if there's one thing I had to improve, it would be the battery. It's by no means awful, but on a tablet, battery life is very important. And for a battery life that would just about be good enough for a smartphone, it really does need some considering.
Overall, this isn't the best device out there. The Nexus 7 has it trumped on pretty much everything. But to a certain extent that doesn't matter, because the price point justifies everything. The strong points- the good performance, decent screen and nice build quality- outweigh the negatives and make this is a device that is really ideal if parents want to get their children a cheap tablet or something that can be thrown in a backpack and taken on a family outing. I hope this review helps in any way! Thanks for reading.
