Dragon Touch Y88X Plus review: Rough around the edges  July 19, 2022 – 08:56 pm

Dragon Touch Y88XBudget Android tablets are usually a hit or miss proposition and the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus missed on several levels. Read on for the full review of the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus.

  • 7” IPS Screen 1024×600
  • Quad Core 4 x 1.3 Ghz

  • AC Adapter

Design

The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus is about as basic as it gets when it comes to design. There’s absolutely nothing thrilling about how this tablet looks or feels. The build quality feels much like a toy rather than a consumer electronic. At the top of the device (landscape) you’ll find the power button, DC in, microphone and microUSB port. On the right side is where the volume rocker and headphone jack make their home. On the back you’ll find the 2.0MP camera, one speaker and the TF card slot. Around the front is the front facing camera. Documentation isn’t clear as to how many megapixels it is. Overall, the design wasn’t very appealing and the feel was cheap.

Dragon Touch Y88XDisplay

The 7” IPS 1024×600 display is actually not bad looking, although the construction feels cheap and fingerprints build quickly. Dragon Touch does include a screen protector pre-installed. For an IPS display the colors were a bit oversaturated and blacks were acceptable. Overall the display works fine other than the cheap feel of the build.

Software/Ecosystem

Running on Android 4.4.4 this tablet is very much behind in updates. Kit-Kat still runs decently, but you may run into incompatible apps due to the age of the OS. Not to mention the security patches and other bugs that probably haven’t been fixed. Other Dragon Touch tablets at least run Android 5.1 which is easier to deal with than Android 4.4.4.

Performance

Performance was a bit of a disappointment on the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus. With a Quad-Core chip inside and 512 RAM this little tablet is great for basic browsing and some light YouTube watching but it struggled with even light gaming. If you’re playing games not updated since the Android 4.4.4 days then those may run decently here. But newer games are going to struggle and in many cases, be completely unplayable. Scrolling and touch input were okay but there was some stutter and lag apparent. Bottom line is, you’re getting what you’re paying for here so don’t expect Samsung performance.

Speakers/Sound

The one speaker is tinny and very under powered, headphones are recommended.

Camera

Don’t buy this tablet for its cameras. Use your phone and you’ll be much happier.

Battery Life

Battery life is decent for a small tablet. But since you can’t really run anything intense on this tablet, it should be.

Price/Value

$39.99 is not a lot of money but you’ll have to really weigh what you want to use this tablet for. A light browsing and YouTube consumption machine is probably its wheelhouse. If you want gaming don’t get it.
