Most phone cases protect your handset from the odd knock or scratch, but the Survivor takes things to the extreme. It meets UK military standards for drop, vibration, rain and wind conditions and should protect your iPhone 4 in just about any environment - even if you drop it six feet onto concrete. Getting an iPhone into and out of the case isn t quick, so it s really only for people who really need extra protection, say building site workers. Flaps cover all ports and buttons - great for those occasions you get stuck in a dust storm or avalanche - but you ll have to flip them…

Though Apple ditched the delicate all-glass design of the iPhone 4/4S in favor of a sturdier aluminum back panel for the iPhone 5 , it s still not the most durable smartphone. The easily scuffed and scratched body has many iPhone owners wrapping their handsets in all manner of protective cases. But for those looking for maximum protection, there s the LifeProof Frē iPhone 5 Case ($79.99 direct), which offers dust, shock, and water protection without the bulk that comes with typical ruggedized cases. Design, Features, and Setup The Frē looks and feels a lot like the Lifeproof…
The Case For Rugged Cases Phone cases have come a long way – and we’re not talking about leather holsters of yesteryear. Just in the past few years, cases have become an important side industry in mobile communication. With the advent of touchscreens and glass-encased phones, dropping them no longer means a dent in the corner, it usually means a unusable phone. To compensate, cases have gotten stronger, thinner, and more resilient to stand up to bumps and scrapes. We put some new ruggedized cases to the test: we got mean, and a little bit abusive by throwing, drowning, and smashing…
Apple has repackaged the powerful iPhone 6S into an iPhone 5S body to bring us the new iPhone SE. This diminutive new iPhone is cheaper and easier to handle than its big brothers, the 6S and 6S Plus, but it still represents a fragile combination of glass and metal that will break all too easily if you drop it. If you have an old iPhone 5S or iPhone 5 case lying around, then it can be repurposed for the new phone. Most of you will likely prefer to snag a new one, however, so we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite iPhone SE cases in the lines below. This case combines a TPU layer…
For a lot of us, our smartphone is an indispensable tool that goes with us everywhere. It makes sense that you’d want your phone to be able to survive anything, including accidental drops, snowboarding wipe-outs, and a dip in the pool. To get the most protection for the iPhone 6/6s, consider the Lifeproof Fre, which promises to deliver superior water, dirt, snow, and drop protection. The Fre case is a two-piece, hard shell with edges that are wrapped in a plastic bumper for shock absorption and drop protection. Between the two halves of the case, there is a rubber O-ring seal…
SGP Ultra Silke R Series image copyright SGP Corp. While the Ultra Silke R Series is pretty basic—no amazing design or features here—they offer a terrific package for a great price. You get a solid iPhone 4 case, plus a screen cleaner and an overlay screen protector. That s a comprehensive package that even cases that cost twice as much don t offer. LifeProof is considered to be the go-to name when looking for a waterproof case to protect your iPhone in extreme and uncertain conditions that life calls for. We thought the LifeProof case for the iPhone 4S was the best performing waterproof case money can buy you, but it also left us wanting more. The latest LifeProof Fre case is a breakthrough slim waterproof case designed not only to keep your iPhone 5 safely protected against water, but also against every other element including drops and rough handling. It is, the ultimate protective iPhone case without a doubt. Incredible…
Nick Guy Incipio unveiled Atlas for iPhone 5 ($80-$90) at the 2013 CES, and we were so impressed with it that it won a Best of Show Award. The case is Incipio s take on the slim, ultra-rugged, waterproof case made popular by LifeProof with cases such as Frē. While it s essentially the same size - just a bit thicker - as LifeProof s iPhone 5 case, the materials and overall feel are different. The plastic and rubber case is made to withstand pretty much anything you throw at it, without adding serious bulk or complexity. Atlas ships with a cleaning cloth and headphone extender…
The bigger they come, the harder they fall. Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus sports a 5.5-inch display and that rounded body looks potentially slippery to us. It’s a slim device and even with the promise of “ion-strengthened” glass we can already hear the sound of cracking displays as they hit the sidewalk. Why take the chance? Peruse the iPhone 6 Plus cases that are flooding onto the market and get the style and protection you need. The Layered Dandy series of cases from Verus is meant to provide storage and protection. Each c
All eyes were on the iPhone 7 as it strutted down Apple’s California-based catwalk. This is a beautiful smartphone with an elegant design, but it’s a fragile beauty that needs to be protected. If you expose your iPhone to the world, there’s a significant chance it’s going to get damaged. All it takes is a single slip and you can end up with a ding, scuff, or crack that will likely spoil those good looks. Thankfully, the right case will provide your iPhone 7 with the style and protection it needs. Check out a few of our current favorites below. A super-successful Indiegogo campaign…
Both Sal and myself have experienced a cracked iPhone screen within the past couple of months. In my case my son grabbed the iPhone from me and then threw it (he’s less than two years old so I excuse that behavior) and in Sal’s case, it went for a pretty big fall. Sal previously detailed his experience and walked us through dealing with it by placing an anti-glare screen cover on it. Of course, that’s how you “deal with it”, but how can you prevent it from ever occurring? Back in July I wrote about how my wife’s iPhone withstood a 55 mph drive thanks to the Otterbox impact series…
Using the Hex Solo Wallet (iPhone 6 and 6s; $40 on Amazon) is a joy. Featuring a unibody design and a leather exterior that gives it a unique look and feel, this wallet case is very easy to install and use. It’s our current favorite, even despite a couple of small issues. Design and Use As a snap-on case, putting the Solo Wallet on your iPhone goes fast—and once it’s on there, you’ll enjoy wide openings for buttons and ports. At the back of the case are two slots that exert a tight hold on anything you put in them—so tight that sometimes you’ll have trouble pulling cards out…
While the iPhone 7 design isn’t that different to the older iPhone 6 or 6s it is sufficiently changed that you’ll likely need a new case for your new phone, and that includes battery cases for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 is the same size (138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm) as the 6s but slightly (5g) lighter; it’s 9g heavier and a little fatter than the 6 (138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm). The design change that means you need a new case for the iPhone 7 is the larger camera bump on the back. iPhone 7 Plus users will have a similar need for a new case, with its new dual back-camera. So when Apple changed…
