IPad VS Samsung tablet Reviews
The Apple iPad Air came out in 2013 while the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 debuted this spring, so some might expect the much newer model to have better performance, but that’s not the case.
Apple’s tablet uses a 64-bit, 1.4 GHz, dual-core processor with 1 GB of RAM. On the Geekbench 3 test it scored a 2650. Samsung’s has a 32-bit, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with 1.5 GB of RAM. Its Geekbench 3 score is 1440.
Benchmarking tools don’t tell the whole story: in regular, day-to-day use, these two tablets have similar performance because the processor Samsung uses is fast enough to handle non-demanding applications. But the iPad is much more capable of running high-end games and other apps that require real horsepower.
Samsung offers the Tab A 9.7 in 16GB and 32GB versions, and Apple offers its tablet in the same capacities.
The iPad Air wins this category, thanks to its more powerful processor.
Software
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A 9.7 runs Google Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, while the iPad Air runs Apple’s own iOS 8.3. Comparing and contrasting these has been done in a separate article.
This category has no winner, as it comes down to the user’s own preference as to which operating system is a better fit for them.
Battery Life
The iPad Air offers a very long battery life, with the tablet typically running for 10-12 hours on a single charge. Amazingly, the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 can outlast this. Its combination of a large battery and non-demanding processor makes it able to go for 14-16 hours.
